Monroe Twp. department collecting ambulance fee
The Newark Advocate - Newark,OH,USA
The revenue collected from the EMS billing is anticipated to total about $100,000 after MED3OOO, the company operating collections, receives a small portion. . . Fire Chief Dudley Wright said the change is something for which many residents have been asking. Wright said although an entity typically can't bill an insurance company without billing the individual for part of the total cost, state legislation allows the department to count the individuals' property tax as their payment. That allows the department to send a bill for ambulance rides directly to the insurance provider without affecting the resident.
Billing for transports to the hospital has become a common practice, including in most municipalities and townships in Licking County, Wright said, and increases revenue without additional taxes. He said that might mean being able to hire two more firefighters. (Full story click here)
